Launceston Custom Cabinets grew out of a simple observation: with no IKEA store anywhere in Tasmania, local homeowners were left shipping flat-pack across Bass Strait or ordering online and hoping it fitted. In a city as full of character homes as Launceston, that rarely ends well, because heritage rooms are seldom square and standard-size boxes leave awkward gaps. We built the business to offer a genuine local alternative: cabinetry measured, made and fitted for the actual space, with a full choice of materials and finishes. Over the years we have worked through the heritage streets of Newstead and Trevallyn, the established family suburbs of Kings Meadows, Prospect and Riverside, and the newer homes going up around Legana and St Leonards. Today we handle everything from a single vanity to a complete kitchen and joinery fit-out, and we install and stand behind the work ourselves.

The business is led by Steve Smith, who has spent more than twelve years designing and building custom cabinetry. Steve is involved from the first measure through to the final adjustment on install day, so the person who quotes your job is the person who sees it through. He takes the time to understand how you actually use a room before drawing a single line, and he is straight with you about what will work, what will not, and what it will cost. That hands-on, no-nonsense approach is why much of our work comes from word of mouth.
