Owner Steve Smith brings 12-plus years of local experience, $20 million public liability cover and a workshop set up for heritage-sensitive, made-to-measure work, not flat-pack freighted from the mainland.

The Process

Our Simple 3 Step Process

1. Talk and measure on site

We start with a conversation about how you cook, store and live, then measure on site. In a heritage Launceston home that means checking for out-of-square walls, floors that fall and old services hidden behind plaster, so the design is based on the real room, not an assumption. 2. Design, materials and a clear quote

From those measurements we design the layout and, for most kitchens, prepare drawings so you can see the plan before anything is cut. We talk through door styles, compliant benchtop surfaces and finishes suited to a cold-winter home, then put it all into a clear written quote with a realistic timeline and no engineered stone.

3. Build in the workshop, then install

Your cabinetry is built square in our workshop, edges heat-sealed and soft-close hardware fitted, away from site dust and weather. We then install it scribed to your walls and packed dead level, with reveals lined up to within about 2mm, fit the benchtop, adjust every door and drawer, and leave you one local number to call.

Do you build custom cabinetry or just supply flat-pack?

With no IKEA in Tasmania, is custom really worth it over flat-pack?

For most local homes, yes. There is no IKEA store anywhere in Tasmania, so a flat-pack kitchen means freight across Bass Strait by ferry or air, extra lead time, and fixed carcass sizes that seldom suit a heritage wall. Bunnings Kaboodle is available locally, but it is still a fixed-size range. Custom is measured, built and fitted here, with one local person to call afterwards.

Do you work on heritage Georgian and Victorian homes?

Regularly. Launceston was founded in 1806 and holds one of Australia's best-preserved stocks of Georgian, Victorian and Federation houses, concentrated around inner Launceston, Trevallyn, Newstead and East Launceston. Those homes are almost never square, so we scribe cabinetry to the actual walls and pack every reveal straight, usually to within about 2mm, so the finished job looks built-in rather than dropped in.

What benchtops can you supply now engineered stone is banned?

We fit five compliant surfaces: laminate, natural granite or marble (fabricated by licensed stonemasons), porcelain and sintered stone, solid timber, and stainless steel. We do not supply engineered or reconstituted stone, whose manufacture, supply and installation were banned nationally from 1 July 2024, with importation prohibited from 1 January 2025, because of the silicosis risk to workers.
